A corn grit trap is a physical impurity separation device customized for corn deep processing, which removes mixed sand, pebbles, soil blocks and tiny metal impurities from raw corn relying on density difference, airflow winnowing and mechanical vibration, without chemical reagents, high-temperature treatment or grain damage. Different from ordinary grain sieves that separate materials by particle size, this equipment separates impurities by material specific gravity, which solves the defect that fine sand with similar particle size to corn kernels cannot be screened out by traditional mesh screens. It is the core pre-cleaning equipment matched with corn grit making, corn flour milling and corn germ extraction production lines.
The whole working process is divided into four continuous and automatic operation steps. Firstly, uniform feeding and material dispersion: raw corn mixed with gravel is transported to the top feeding bin, and the built-in vibration distributor runs stably to break stacked corn clusters. It spreads bulk corn into an even thin material layer with fixed thickness, avoiding material accumulation that causes incomplete separation. Uniform feeding is the premise of efficient sand removal, which ensures every corn kernel and impurity contacts airflow and gravity field evenly. Secondly, gravity and airflow collaborative separation inside the main cavity: dry corn kernels have a low density of 1.2g/cm³, while sand and gravel own a density of 2.6g/cm³. The built-in low-speed circulating fan forms horizontal stable soft airflow inside the sealed separation chamber. Light corn kernels are blown forward to the finished corn outlet by airflow, while heavy gravel loses airflow buoyancy and sinks vertically downward rapidly.
Thirdly, classified collection of impurities: sinking gravel, soil blocks and coarse mineral particles slide along inclined buffer baffles and fall into the closed bottom sediment hopper. Meanwhile, embedded permanent magnetic strips at the cavity bottom adsorb iron filings and steel sundries brought by agricultural harvesting machines, realizing dual removal of non-metallic gravel and ferromagnetic impurities. Fourthly, finished material discharge and closed dust control: purified clean corn is delivered to downstream processing equipment through the rear conveyor, and the fully sealed cavity prevents dust overflow and secondary material pollution. The whole working cycle runs continuously 24 hours a day. With simple working logic and low failure rate, the corn grit trap can reach 98% impurity removal rate under standard working conditions, adapt to conventional dry corn raw materials, and maintain zero breakage rate of corn kernels during separation, which perfectly meets the basic purification demands of medium and small corn processing enterprises.
